This paper will explore some troubled and troublesome aspects of sexuality from an analytic perspective. These include specific psychosexual difficulties such as non-consummation, potency problems and no-sex couples. Other more general topics to be considered include erotic transference and counter transference issues, sexual boundary violations, sexual abuse and sexual perversions including the use of Internet pornography.

Freudian, Kleinian and Jungian theories will be referred to where relevant to aid this exploration. Clinical vignettes will be used to illustrate the themes, drawing on the speaker’s various professional identities as a medical practitioner, psychosexual doctor and Jungian analyst.

Dr Elphis Christopher is medically qualified and has worked in the field of family planning and sexual medicine for 40 years and as a Jungian analyst for 20 years. She is the author of a number of papers and a book Sexuality and Birth Control in Community Work (1987). She has been a contributor to several books and co-edited (with Hester McFarland Solomon) Jungian Thought in the Modern World (2000) and Contemporary Jungian Clinical Practice (2003).
Dr Christopher recently retired as Consultant for Family Planning and Reproductive Care in Haringey NHS Primary Care Trust. She is a member of the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine and Fellow of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is a senior member of the Jungian section of the British Association of Psychotherapy and a past member of the BAP's Jungian Analytic Training Committee. She is currently in private practice and supervises Relate Licensed Counsellors.

This event is CPD-accredited for BPC and UKCP
